Starting 25 March 2025, Companies House will implement a phased identity verification process to prevent fraudulent company activities in the UK. Anyone forming, managing, or controlling a UK company must verify their identity to prove they are legitimate.
Who Needs to Verify Their Identity?
Identity verification will become mandatory for:
- New and existing directors and people with significant control (PSCs)
- Individuals acting on behalf of a company
Anyone else submitting filings at Companies House (either individually or through an ACSP).
From 25 March 2025, individuals can voluntarily verify their identity via GOV.UK One Login or an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP).
How to Verify Your Identity

You can verify directly with Companies House using official ID documents like a passport. Various support options will be available to guide you through the process.
- Authorised Corporate Service Providers (ACSPs)
From 25 February 2025, AML-supervised firms and sole traders company formation agents, solicitors, accountants, and governance professionals who are anti-money laundering (AML) regulated, can apply to become ACSPs, and carry out the Identity verification checks for their clients.
Consequences of Non-Compliance
Failing to verify your identity on time will be considered an offence, leading to financial penalties. You will also be unable to register or manage a company. Companies House will release detailed guidance on verification procedures in the coming months. Stay informed to ensure compliance and avoid penalties.
